Tweeting Up with Publicity Club of Chicago
On Wednesday, August 26th, Barcelona Creative Group (BCG) will co-sponsor a Tweetup with the Publicity Club of Chicago (PCC), with promotional support from Big Teeth Productions. The Tweetup will be held at Rock Bottom in Chicago from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. (Click to RSVP)
How did this partnership come together? TWITTER, of course!
I have been a member of PCC for about a year, and it is truly a great organization to be a part of. For those of you who don’t know, Publicity Club of Chicago is a network of Chicago’s inspired public relations and marketing/communications professionals, making up the nation’s largest independent public relations membership organization.
Right after I joined PCC I volunteered to help with the Education Series. Each weekly class features top level PR practitioners who share their knowledge and experience on timely topics in the industry. Thanks to Kim McCullough, a member of the PCC Board of Directors, I was able to jump right in and help with planning, finding speakers and even moderate one of the sessions. It was awesome and I am so glad to be a committee chairperson for the 2010 Education Series!
As Kim and I stayed in touch through Twitter, we thought it would be great to work together again and co-sponsor this Tweetup. Dave Bosch, PCC President, thought we could take this initiative one step further and invite those looking for a job in PR or marketing/communications to come and talk about their job search and make some new connections through networking with PCC board members and other industry colleagues. With a quick BCG logo design and some additional planning and location scouting, the PCC/BCG tweetup came to life!
While I have met many great colleagues and friends through Twitter, I immediately thought of Big Teeth Productions to help add some “smile” to our promotion of the event. A couple of tweets and emails later, Big Teeth is not only going to attend the event and shoot some video footage while there, they also came up with the idea to produce a few short promotional clips leading up to event. Making new connections like Gregg and Elise Jaffe and Dan Hindin are what makes Twitter truly amazing. I have no doubt the Tweetup will be a greater success because of their help!
We are all looking forward to the PCC/BCG Tweetup on August 26th. If you’re in the Chicagoland area, we hope you will join us while we chat about life, jobs, PR and marketing, and of course, have some fun while networking!

How Do You Survive the “Dog Days of Summer”?
I don’t know about you, but I am a person who loves to be outdoors during the summer. You’ll often find me poolside on weekends, and if I’m not there I might just be lucky enough to be out on the golf course.
A good friend and client of Barcelona Creative was in the office last week and the two of us were talking about all the things we’re trying to accomplish right now, and how sometimes, when you look outside and the sun is shining, it’s really hard to stay focused and get things done. She referred to these times as the “Dog Days of Summer.” (A quick side note – we are both dog lovers and often compare stories about her Daschund and my Westie because we got them as puppies at around the same time.)
Merriam-Websters’s online dictionary defines “dog days” as a period of stagnation or inactivity. It is said that the dog days occur between July 3 and August 11. Which means, we have only one more dog day to go!
So I ask, how do you survive the “dog days of summer”? How do you stay focused and accomplish that to-do list?
I do my best to stay on track, but I am still human and haven’t quite mastered my own survival tactics. But, I can share with you the three things I try to remember when I feel overwhelmed or am finding it hard to stay focused.
1. Focus on what needs to be done. Staying focused on WHAT needs to be done will keep your mind off of worrying HOW you’re going to accomplish everything.
2. Ask for help. There aren’t many people out there who are more stubborn or harder on themselves than I am. But at some point, asking for help might just be the best way to find a better way to get something done, or if nothing else, provide a small mental break from stressing.
3. Find time for some fun. Remember, it’s still summer and it doesn’t last forever. It’s important to find some time during each day to do something you enjoy. Maybe I can’t play 18 holes on a Tuesday afternoon, but I can go for a run, take my Westie for a walk or hit the driving range for a half hour to help clear my head and prepare for tomorrow’s day at work!
However you tackle the “dog days” of summer, I wish you good luck! Feel free to share some of your tips for survival by commenting on this entry – if I can accumulate enough good tips to “beat the heat” I will catalog them in another blog entry as a follow up!
